About
My name is Jason Phillips. I am a 27 year old fitness professional and fitness model currently living in Charlotte, North Carolina. My route here has many stops, and many adventures but through all my life experiences I have been fortunate enough to find myself in a role helping others to achieve their fitness goals.
I graduated high school back in 2002, a highly ranged amateur golfer and had the physique that matched it. Yup, thats me (and the most important woman in my life) at the age of 18, weighing a hefty 130lbs. After taking a college scholarship I injured my shoulder and golf was forced to the back burner. As the saying goes, “everything happens for a reason.” Well it turns out, this event changed my life. My orthopedist gave me two options, surgery or rehab. Being the brave soul that I am (and by brave i mean scared s*!tless of surgery) I chose the rehab option. Well after a few short weeks I found myself wanting to spend more and more time around the weights. Around this same time I was approached by someone who wanted me to try modeling, her parting words from our conversation were “be sure to send me pictures that include your abs.” Let me remind you I was a GOLFER. I ate what golfers ate, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, anything that isn’t good for you was probably part of my daily diet. Well I joined gold’s gym, determined to get that six pack. Hours of cardio, “weight workouts” (well I thought they were back then) and a diet that consisted of next to nothing. Fast forward a few weeks and i was full blown ANOREXIC. 130lbs had become 120lbs and I was so tired that I couldn’t hold a job if I was required to work after 12pm. As fate would have it, Gold’s just happened to have a job opening for their 5am-11am shift….just what I needed, more time in the gym, right?! Well truthfully that job saved my life. The trainers there started to notice my destructive habits and quickly interjected. I remember one trainer bluntly telling me “YOU ARE F@*KING TINY!” Something clicked and I asked him how to get bigger. He replied: ”eat 4000 calories a day and train with me.” Why he chose that number and why I believed him is beyond me, but I did it. To my surprise I wasn’t gaining fat and my energy levels were increasing. Fast forward 10 more years, and here I am. I am the trainer giving advice and transforming the lives of others.
I have been now been fortunate enough to grace the pages of Maximum Fitness, Muscle and Fitness, Men’s Health, and several other publications. I have contributed to Optimum Nutrition’s Hardline magazine and been a sponsored athlete with them for 4 years. My workouts have helped several people transform not only their physiques, but their lives! To be apart of that is a humbling, but an insanely rewarding experience!
